Common Pain Diagnoses
Sometimes it’s difficult for patients to describe their pain and the factors that make it better or irritate it and increase the pain. However, this kind of information and a detailed history of the pain are very important in helping us make the correct diagnosis.
We assure our patients that we will spend an ample time talking with patients, perform Physical examination, Patient Follow up interviews, gather data and reviewing past records, X-rays, MRIs, and CAT scans, this will allow our specialist to establish a specific treatment plan for each patients using the latest techniques and technology.
Spine pain: neck, low and mid-back
Spine pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints. The keys for the best results are early, accurate diagnosis, implementation of appropriate therapy, spine injection therapies, Epidural and other types of spine injection therapies should be targeted towards your particular spine problem,The selection of which injection type will be most effective for you is based on a careful assessment of your medical history and a thorough physical examination.
Sacroiliac joint (SI) pain
The SI joints are located between the iliac bones and the sacrum, connecting the spine to the hips. The two joints provide support and stability, and play a major role in absorbing impact when walking and lifting. From the back, the SI joints are located below the waist where two dimples are visible.
Sacroiliac (SI) joint pain is felt in the low back and buttocks. The pain is caused by damage or injury to the joint between the spine and hip. Sacroiliac pain can mimic other conditions, such as a herniated disc or hip problem. Accurate diagnosis is important to determine the source of pain. Physical therapy, stretching exercises, pain medication
Hip, shoulder, and knee pain
The most common cause of joint pain is arthritis and the most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis. Knee pain caused by arthritis may come on gradually and get worse with activity. … Bursitis can also be a cause of pain in the shoulder and hip areas.
Joint degeneration either from chronic inflammation and/or repetitive use is extremely common and often causes pain. In fact, arthritis is the most common health complaint in the United States and is one of the most common reasons for an office visit to a physician. We use a combination of intra-articular injections, viscosupplementation injections, regenerative injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency treatments, and medications to lessen joint pains.
Vertebral Compression Fractures
As we age, our bones become brittle and are more susceptible to traumatic injury. This can be very painful. These fractures are strongly linked to osteoporosis. Possible interventional treatments include epidural steroid injections and cement augmentation. Cement augmentation is the injection of bone cement into the vertebral body (backbone) to relieve pain. Vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty are common techniques used to accomplish this. People with spinal fractures treated with Kyphon – Kyphoplasty will experience significant benefits compared to Non-surgical treatments such as less back pain, improved mobility and improved quality of life
Treatments Offered
Some of the more common procedures we offer are listed below. We place great emphasis on diagnosis and treatment selection. We know your time is valuable and we want to get you more comfortable as soon as possible!
Spine and joint injections of all types
(guided by fluoroscopy [X-ray] or ultrasound)
We use X-ray technology to ensure accuracy and effectiveness of the various types of injections we administer. They are proven for relief of many types of pain. Injection types include epidural injection, sacro-iliac joint injection, facet joint injection and intra-articular (joint) injections of all types. The intent is to place medication in the pain-generating area to relieve chronic or acute discomfort.
Radiofrequency treatments
This type of treatment is administered directly on the nerve causing the discomfort. We apply heat in the form of electrical current preventing the nerve from carrying pain signals. Radiofrequency treatments typically provide pain relief for 6 months or longer.
Nerve Blockade
Irritated nerves are common sources of pain in the trunk and extremities. We perform ultrasound and fluoroscopically-guided injections to reduce nerve inflammation on a wide variety of peripheral nerves.
Regenerative Injection Treatments (“prolotherapy”)
Regenerative injection treatments consist of injecting natural substances in areas where tendons and ligaments are loose resulting in stimulation of tissue growth. This results in greater structural support for diseased joints. Clinical studies have shown this to be effective in many cases of chronic pain. The latest options for this include injecting your own stem cells or platelet-rich plasma.
Vertebroplasty / kyphoplasty
These treatments involve a rebuilding process to restore fractured vertebrae due to osteoporosis and/or injury due to a fall. Both vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty involve use of bone cement to restore strength and height in the affected vertebrae.
We use X-ray or ultrasound guidance for most of our procedures.
